Since the passing of Prop 8 in November 2008, GLBTQA California residents and alliance groups everywhere have been fighting to get the thing overturned. A false hope exploded over Twitter a couple of days ago with misleading report of Prop 8 being overturned. Currently, however,the courts are not ruling on the amendment until June 3.
It seems that the fervor against the government’s decision to, for the first time in the United States’ history, take back the equal rights that these individuals have fought for, is slowly making headway as other states legalize and recognize gay marriage in their own sovereignty. Even in Colorado, ambitiously amazing Colorado State University students have drafted their own initiative to recognize same-sex civil unions, which allow partner rights the same as marriage.
Proposition 8 is still up for review, being called un-constitutional, and advocacy groups are organizing against it in mad amounts. Even the world’s next dictator, Google, donated about $140k to the cause for defeat. The amount of support that has gone into overturning the amendment has caused an uproar on the West coast for those who support it, citing that to overturn is to dismiss the spoken voice of the people, but perhaps they aren’t hearing the war cries of the people who are stating it’s unconstitutional…
